WINGNUTS EVEN SERIES AT A GAME APIECE09/08/2016 9:21 PM
Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers fall to Wichita with a 9-3 score in game two of the semi-finals. The series in now tied at 1-1 apiece, with the Explorers playing the final three games in Wichita (September 10-12th). Wichita scored early and often on Thursday night, jumping to a 6-0 lead after five and a half innings of play. The six runs for the Wingnuts came off four RBI singles and a solo-homer by Brent Clevlen (4th inning). Explorers recorded their first run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Michael Lang reached first on a hit-by-pitch, advanced all the way to third on a Nate Samson single, and scored off a 6-4-3 double play to cut the lead down to 6-1. Wingnuts added another in the seventh inning. With the bases-loaded, Christian Stringer knocked in a run with a sacrifice-fly, scoring the tagging runner at third base. Sioux City plated two more runs in the bottom of the seventh. X’s second baseman Bryan Johns scored a run with an RBI double, and Derrick Robinson added a run with a sac-fly-RBI. Wichita went on to score two more runs in the ninth, extending their lead to 9-3 which would be the final score of the game. In the ninth, Leo Vargas smashed a two-run homer to increase the lead to six runs. Wingnuts starter Alex Boshers (1-0) received the victory on the night, allowing three runs in six innings pitched. Explorers left-hander Cody Forsythe (0-1) was charged with the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) in 5.1 innings pitched.
