Explorers Shutout To End Four Game Win Streak

Sioux City, IA (August 9th, 2022) - The Sioux City Explorers saw their four game winning streak snapped with a 6-0 shutout loss to the Kansas City Monarchs.

The Monarchs scored all the runs they needed for a victory in the top of the first. With two outs and a man aboard, Matt Adams hit a two-run homer to give Kansas City a 2-0 lead. Three consecutive two-out singles finished with Casey Gillaspie’s RBI knock to put the Monarchs ahead 3-0.

Kansas City added another three runs in the fourth. Kevin Santa’s single with two outs began another two out rally. Jacob Robson drilled a run scoring double off the left field wall. David Thompson drove in a pair with a base hit to right, giving the Monarchs a 6-0 lead.

Kansas City scored all six of their runs in two innings and all six scored with two outs.

Zach Hedges (1-7) was handed the loss for the Explorers as he gave up six runs in five innings on ten hits, he struck out three and walked two.

Sioux City’s offense never got going against Kansas City starter Matt Hall (6-2) who picked up the victory by firing seven shutout innings, collecting eight strikeouts. He scattered three singles and two walks and at one point retired ten straight.

The three hits were all Sioux City was able to muster in the ball game.

The rubber game of the series will be at 7:05 pm on Wednesday. Lefty Patrick Ledet (4-3, 4.25) will get the start for Sioux City and right hander Nick Belzer (3-2, 4.47) takes the ball for Kansas City.
