BIG FIFTH INNING SINKS EXPLORERS IN 12–4 LOSS

DOCKHOUNDS EVEN THE SERIES

By: Andrew Della Piana

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Sioux City (31–38) fell 12–4 to Lake Country (39–29) on Tuesday night after allowing a six‑run fifth inning that broke open the game.

Lake Country threatened immediately in the first, loading the bases on two walks and a hit‑by‑pitch, but Jasseel De La Cruz impressively struck out three straight to escape the jam.

Control issues resurfaced in the second, however, as two more walks set up Brett Roberts, who drove in Jack Blomgren for a 1–0 lead.

The DockHounds added another in the fourth on a Ripken Reyes sacrifice fly, but the game unraveled in the fifth.

Lake Country sent 11 batters to the plate, producing six hits and six runs including a pair of doubles and a pair of singles to surge ahead 8–0.

De La Cruz finished with seven walks, the most by an Explorer pitcher in a game this season.

Sioux City broke the shutout in the seventh when Yorman Rodriguez singled up the middle to make it 8–1.

Lake Country kept adding.

In the eighth, Peter Zimmermann launched a three‑run homer to left for his 16th of the season to extend the lead to 11–1. Sioux City answered in the bottom half with RBI singles from Henry George and Braulio Vásquez, trimming the deficit to 11–3.

DockHounds starter Sebastian Rodriguez was excellent, allowing just three earned runs over eight innings in a quality start.

Zimmermann added a sacrifice fly in the ninth to make it 12–3, and Wilfredo Gimenez delivered a broken‑bat RBI single in the bottom half to close the scoring at 12–4.
