EARLY HOLE SINKS EXPLORERS IN 9–6 LOSS TO REDHAWKS
COMEBACK EFFORT FALLS SHORT
By: Andrew Della Piana
SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Sioux City (38–43) couldn’t overcome an early hole on Tuesday night, falling 9–6 to Fargo‑Moorhead (43–38).
Manager Steve Montgomery credited the fight, but noted the early damage, “They got some pitches up in the zone and they didn’t miss. We kept fighting and battling. If we keep doing that, glad to see the guys fight.”

In the first, Eric Filia and Tripp Clark went back‑to‑back to make it 2–0 and the first time this season Sioux City has allowed consecutive home runs.
Fargo‑Moorhead added on in the second, again with two outs. Filia doubled home two, and Clark followed with another RBI double to stretch the lead to 5–0. In the fourth, Jesus Lujano pushed it to 6–0 with an RBI double to right.

Sioux City finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth against Bryce Brassfield. Alberto Osuna and D’Shawn Knowles delivered back‑to‑back RBI singles to cut the deficit to 6–2.
The RedHawks answered in the fifth.
Brian Fuentes singled home a run, and with two outs, a grounder to second turned costly when Yorman Rodriguez committed a fielding error, allowing another run to score and making it 8–2. Juan Fernandez added a sacrifice fly in the sixth to extend the lead to 9–2.

Osuna doubled home a run in the sixth, and with the bases loaded, Dillon Tatum hit a grounder to third. Fargo‑Moorhead recorded the force at second, but an errant throw by Tucupita Marcano allowed two runs to score, trimming the deficit to 9–5.
Sioux City added another in the eighth when Knowles singled and later scored on Jackson Van De Brake’s RBI groundout, making it 9–6.

The Explorers brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth after two‑out walks to Braulio Vásquez and Osuna, but D’Shawn Knowles popped out to first to end the game.
Sioux City continues the three‑game set with Fargo‑Moorhead on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:05 p.m.
