EXPLORERS OUTLAST DOCKHOUNDS 9-5 IN LONE LEAGUE GAME

X’S SHINE ON MONDAY NIGHT

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Sioux City (31–37) took down Lake Country (38–29) 9–5 on Monday night in the lone American Association game.

Manager Steve Montgomery praised the group’s resilience, “…our offense has figured out ways to respond. We just have to keep putting up zeros on the board.”

The Explorers jumped out quickly.

In the first, Braulio Vásquez launched a two‑run homer to center for a 2–0 lead.

Sioux City kept rolling in the second as Dillon Tatum ripped an RBI double down the left‑field line and Austin Davis added a sacrifice fly, stretching the advantage to 4–0. In the third, Alberto Osuna pushed home another with a sac fly to make it 5–0.

Lake Country stormed back in the middle innings.

Joshua Mears crushed his 24th home run of the season in the fourth, tying him with Fargo‑Moorhead’s José Sermo for the league lead.

The DockHounds then erupted for four runs in the fifth, highlighted by a Brett Roberts two‑run triple, a Ripken Reyes sacrifice fly, and an RBI from Mears after Jack Blomgren tripled. Two triples in the inning helped Lake Country pull even at 5–5.

Sioux City answered immediately in the sixth.

D’Shawn Knowles created a run with a brilliant stolen base, slipping around a rundown tag to reach scoring position where Osuna drove him in with a double down the line. Tatum followed with another sacrifice fly to restore a 7–5 lead.

The Explorers added insurance in the eighth when Jackson Van De Brake scored on a wild pitch, and Zac Vooletich lined a single to center to make it 9–5.

Sioux City resumes the four‑game series against Lake Country on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:05 p.m. on KSCJ 94.9 FM and 1360 AM.  Fans can also watch every American Association game this season on the league’s streaming platform at aabaseball.tv.
