EXPLORERS ROLL 13–4, BUT PLAYOFF HOPES END WITH SIOUX FALLS WIN
X’S SET NEW STOLEN BASE RECORD
OCONOMOWOC, WI – Sioux City (48–50) cruised past Lake Country (55–43) on Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 13–4 victory behind a multi‑homer performance from Yorman Rodriguez.
Despite the win, the Explorers were officially eliminated from playoff contention following Sioux Falls’ victory.
Manager Steve Montgomery reflected on the late push, “We put ourselves in this position, to even be in position to have a chance, we’ve been one of the better teams in the league in the last month.”
In the first inning, Alberto Osuna doubled to left to score Braulio Vásquez and Henry George, and Rodriguez followed with a three‑run homer for his second straight game going deep to give Sioux City a 5–0 lead.
Austin Davis stole third for Sioux City’s 276th stolen base of the season, breaking the American Association single‑season record the Explorers set just last year. Moments later, Vásquez cleared the bases with a double to make it 8–0, and Osuna singled home another for a 9–0 advantage in the second.
Lake Country got on the board in the bottom half when Ripken Reyes blooped an RBI double to left, scoring Peter Zimmermann.
Sioux City kept adding on. Zac Vooletich reached on an error to score Davis, stretching the lead to 10–1. Rodriguez then homered again in the fourth for his second of the day to make it 11–1.
Davis opened the fifth with a first‑pitch homer to left, pushing the lead to 12–1. Lake Country answered with Joshua Mears’ 37th home run of the season, trimming the deficit to 12–2.
In the eighth, D’Shawn Knowles tripled to right for his first triple of the season, scoring Osuna to make it 13–2.
Lake Country added two in the ninth on Anthony Garcia’s RBI single, but Sioux City closed out a comfortable win.
