EXPLORERS ROLL PAST CHICAGO 11-5 IN SERIES OPENER

GIMENEZ DRIVES IN THREE IN THE WIN

By: Andrew Della Piana

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Sioux City (33–39) opened its three‑game weekend series with Chicago (21–51) by rolling to an 11–5 victory on Friday night.

Manager Steve Montgomery emphasized the details afterwards, “…may look like an 11–5 win tonight, but we still have some things to clean up. [We] stayed patient at the plate and had a good approach tonight.”

Chicago struck first in the opening inning. With two outs, Chance Sisco walked and Tyreque Reed doubled into the right‑center alley to score him for a 1–0 lead.

Sioux City answered quickly in the second. Yorman Rodriguez went the other way for a solo homer to right to tie the game, and Wilfredo Gimenez followed with a two‑run single to left to put the Explorers ahead 3–1.

Reed delivered again in the third with an RBI single to center, trimming the lead to 3–2. Sioux City responded in the bottom half when Braulio Vásquez singled and Zach Stokes misplayed the ball in right, allowing Zac Vooletich to score for a 4–2 advantage.

Chicago tied the game in the fourth with back‑to‑back triples from Giovanni DiGiacomo and Jonathan Soto, followed by a Nick Roselli RBI groundout to make it 4–4.

Sioux City reclaimed the lead immediately. Alberto Osuna homered for the third straight game and his 13th of the season to push the Explorers ahead 5–4.

The Dogs tied it once more in the sixth on Soto’s third hit and second RBI of the night, but Sioux City took control from there. In the bottom half, Gimenez punched a single up the middle to make it 6–5.
