EXPLORERS ROLL TO 11–2 WIN, EXTEND STREAK TO FOUR
ROOKIE POE WINS THIRD STRAIGHT
By: Andrew Della Piana
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Sioux City (47–48) extended its winning streak to four games for the first time this season, rolling past Kansas City (55–40) in an 11–2 victory on Wednesday night.
Manager Steve Montgomery kept the focus forward, “I’ll enjoy the win until about 10:00 p.m. and then get ready for the next.”
Kansas City struck first in the opening inning when Luken Baker homered to center for a 1–0 lead. Baker was named the Rawlings Batter of the Month earlier in the day after a dominant August.

Sioux City responded immediately in the second after Alberto Osuna launched a two‑run homer to center to put the Explorers ahead 2–1. In the third, D’Shawn Knowles added a solo shot to left, stretching the lead to 3–1.
Zac Vooletich scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to make it 4–1, and moments later Wilfredo Gimenez delivered the Explorers’ first grand slam of the season in Game 95 that pushed the lead to 8–1.
Kansas City’s only other run came in the sixth on a homer from Grant Richardson, trimming the deficit to 8–2.
Sioux City continued to add on. A seventh‑inning run made it 9–2, and in the eighth, Knowles capped his night with a two‑run homer to right, finishing off an 11–2 scoreline.
On the mound, Hunter Poe remained perfect in his professional career, earning his third win in three starts. He worked seven innings, allowing just two runs against one of the league’s most dangerous offenses.
Sioux City finishes the series on Thursday in Kansas City at 6:35 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:05 p.m. on KSCJ 94.9 FM and 1360 AM.
