EXPLORERS STRIKE EARLY, HOLD OFF REDHAWKS 5–2
OTANO AND OSUNA LEAD SIOUX CITY TO THE SERIES WIN
By: Andrew Della Piana
FARGO, ND – Sioux City (36–41) closed out its series victory in Fargo with a 5–2 win over the RedHawks (40–36) on Thursday afternoon.
Manager Steve Montgomery said, “These guys know what’s at stake, and they executed the game plan today.”
Braulio Vásquez punched a ground‑ball single up the middle to score Henry George, who had reached on an error by Brian Fuentes, giving Sioux City a 1–0 lead in the first.

In the second, Peniel Otano worked out of a bases‑loaded jam by inducing a double play, keeping the Explorers in front.
Sioux City extended the lead in the fifth.
Austin Davis lined a single to left to score Wilfredo Gimenez, making it 2–0. With two outs, Alberto Osuna delivered a two‑run double to left that brought home Zane Denton and Davis for a 4–0 advantage.

Fargo‑Moorhead answered in the bottom half. Aidan Byrne doubled to open the inning and scored on a Jesus Lujano single to center. After Otano exited, José Sermo singled home Lujano to trim the lead to 4–2. Otano finished with 4.2 innings, allowing two earned on five hits, snapping a streak of five straight starts allowing five or more runs.

Sioux City added insurance in the sixth.
With two outs, Sermo couldn’t secure an over‑the‑shoulder catch in right, allowing Austin Davis to score and push the lead to 5–2.
From there, the bullpen took over. Five different arms combined to finish the final 4.1 innings without allowing another run, securing the series win.

Sioux City now heads north of the border to face Winnipeg on Friday at 7:00 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. on KSCJ 94.9 FM and 1360 AM.
