Playoff Race Tightens as Saltdogs Down X’s
Sioux City, IA (August 18th, 2022) — The Sioux City Explorers dropped the rubber match to the Lincoln Saltdogs, 7-2.
For the first time in the series, the Saltdogs were first to put runs across home plate. Josh Altmann scored on Matt Goodheart’s triple. Goodheart later scored on a Skyler Weber single taking a 2-0 lead.
The Explorers responded in the bottom of the inning to make it a 2-1 game. Dylan Kelly pushed Gabe Snyder home with a double. Snyder reached on his own double.
Lincoln added another run in the third on a sac fly and added two more runs in the fourth on a Randy Norris two-run double to move the score to 5-1.
Kevin McCanna (8-5) started for the X’s and took the loss. He tossed five and a third. He gave up ten hits, seven runs, zero walks, and grabbed two strikeouts.
Garrett Delano (6-3) came away with the win for the Saltdogs. He pitched five and two-thirds of an innings. He allowed five hits, one run, four walks, and had one strikeout.
The Saltdogs cushioned their lead with two more runs in the sixth. The first run came from a Skyler Weber single and the second run happened on a Justin Byrd sac fly to take a 7-1 lead.
The Explorers scored one in the eighth to bring the game to its final score 7-2 when Trey Martin scored on a Gabe Snyder single.
The Explorers continue the home stand with a three game series against the Winnipeg Goldeyes starting on Friday night at 7:05 pm. Nivaldo Rodriguez (0-0, 3.60) will be starting on the bump for the X’s and will be faced by righty Luis Ramirez (10-4, 3.91).
