LINCOLN OVERTHROWS SIOUX CITY

SALTDOGS BITE BACK FOR GAME THREE

 

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Sioux City Explorers (32-30) couldn’t hold off the bats of the Lincoln Saltdogs (31-29) Saturday night, falling 7-1 in game three of their series. Lincoln brings their record even with Sioux City for third place in the West Division with one game to go in the series Sunday night.

The Explorers scored the first run of the game when in the first inning, X’s Scott Ota came home on a Vince Fernandez sac fly off Saltdogs starter David Holmberg (3-0), giving Sioux City the early 1-0 lead.

Lincoln changed momentum in the third inning when with the bases loaded, Saltdogs Aaron Takacs and Luis Roman scored on a Luke Roskam single of Explorers starter Mitchell Verburg (2-2), giving the lead to Lincoln 2-1.

In the fifth inning, the Saltdogs added on when Lincoln’s Nick Anderson and Drew Devine crossed the plate on a Yanio Perez double off X’s reliever Heitor Tokar, extending the Saltdogs lead to 4-1.

Lincoln didn’t stop there, scoring again in the seventh inning when Saltdogs Anderson scored on a Connor Panas home run off Sioux City’s Tokar, making it 6-1 Lincoln.

The Saltdogs scored a final run in the ninth inning when Lincoln’s Devine came home on a Panas single off X’s reliever Brenden Heiss, giving a 7-1 lead to the Saltdogs. Lincoln’s Matt Cronin came into the game for the bottom of the frame, pitching a perfect ninth to clinch the win for the Saltdogs.
