Milwaukee Leads Wire to Wire to Take Series Opener
Franklin, WI (July 22nd, 2022) – The Milwaukee Milkmen led wire to wire and took game one from the Sioux City Explorers 10-4.
Milwaukee opened the scoring in the first two frames. Keon Barnum’s RBI single in the first made it 1-0. Back to back run scoring singles from Jeremiah Burks and Bryan Torres gave the Milkmen a 3-0 lead.
After a scoreless third Milwaukee broke it open in the fourth. An error, a single and a hit batter loaded the bases with no one out. Torres singled home a pair of runs and Correlle Prime brought home the next two to push Milwaukee ahead 7-0.
Taking the loss for the Explorers was starter Tyler Beardsley (2-4) as he gave up seven runs, six earned on ten hits. He struck out one and walked three.
Sioux City’s offense was never able to get things rolling against Milwaukee starter Ryan Zimmerman (4-3) who got the win. He cruised through six scoreless innings, allowing only two hits while striking out seven and walking just one. At one point Zimmerman retired thirteen in a row.
A Will Kengor home run in the sixth extended Milwaukee’s lead to 9-0.
The X’s offense got going in the eighth when Trey Martin and Danry Vasquez went back to back to get the X’s on the board 9-3. Gabe Snyder added a solo shot in the ninth after Milwaukee plated a run in the bottom of the eighth to give the game its final score of 10-4.
Ben Holmes (1) picked up the save by tossing the final three innings.
The Explorers and Milkmen will meet for game two of the series on Saturday with first pitch set for 6:00. Zach Hedges (1-4, 6-15) gets the ball for Sioux City and will be opposed by right hander AJ Jones (3-3, 6-48).
