OSUNA NAMED BATTER OF THE WEEK
SLUGGER HITS .524 IN SEVEN GAMES
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The American Association has named Sioux City Explorers first baseman Alberto Osuna the Carbliss Batter of the Week for the week ending August 9. Osuna is the first Explorers batter to earn the award this season and the first since Abdiel Layer was named by the league last August 24.
Osuna earned the honor after huge week where the South Carolina native hit .524 while going 11-for-21 over seven games. He added three home runs, three doubles, walked six times and drove in eight runs for Sioux City. Osuna finished the week with an on-base percentage of .607 and helped lead the X’s to a winning homestand.
Osuna leads the club in extra-base hits with 30 and is hitting .278 with 14 team-leading home runs and 65 RBI. He is second on the team in RBI, and his 45 walks places him third on the club.
The big right-handed bat came to Sioux City after spending his true rookie season playing in 53 games at Staten Island in the Atlantic League in 2025. He hit .253 with four home runs and 27 RBI last season while finishing with a line of .253/.380/.367 and anchoring first base in 53 games.
Osuna joined the Atlantic League after a college career where he clubbed 45 home runs in three seasons at the University of North Carolina and was the NJCAA DI player of the year in 2021 at Walters State Community College, slugging another 25 long balls in his first collegiate season. Osuna grew up in Mauldin, South Carolina and played his high school ball at Mauldin High School.
The Explorers begin a big six‑game road trip on Tuesday night, August 11. The first stop will be game one of a three-game series against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at 7:02 p.m. The game will air on radio on KSCJ and can be seen on video stream at AABASEBALL.TV.
