Garrett Hicks comes to Sioux City after being one of the most dependable late‑inning arms in the Big 12 in 2026. He stepped into Arizona’s closer role as a senior this year and earned All‑Big 12 Honorable Mention and a spot on the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List.
Across 21 appearances, he posted a 3.94 ERA in 29.2 innings, led the Wildcats with six saves, struck out 28, and held opponents to a .259 average.
As a junior, Hicks was one of Arizona’s most used relievers, appearing in 34 games and going 5–2 with 49 strikeouts in 45.2 innings. He held opponents to a .274 average and delivered multiple multi‑inning scoreless outings, including a scoreless frame in the Big 12 Tournament Championship Game against TCU.
Before Arizona, he spent two seasons at Pima Community College where he was dominant. Across 33 appearances. He went 6–2 with four saves, a 2.11 ERA, and 70 strikeouts in 68.1 innings.
His sophomore season was elite with a 6–1 record, 1.82 ERA, 49 strikeouts in 49.1 innings, NJCAA Division I First Team honors as a reliever, First Team All‑ACCAC, and Second Team All‑Region 1. As a freshman, he posted a 2.84 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 19 innings.
Hicks was a two‑way standout at Verrado High School in Arizona, going 8–1 with a 2.50 ERA and 91 strikeouts across 64.1 innings. His 1.54 ERA as a senior ranks among the top three single‑season marks in school history. He also hit .343 with 14 doubles and 38 RBI, earning All‑Conference Honorable Mention, First Team All‑Region, All‑State Honorable Mention, and 5A Desert West Region Defensive Player of the Year.
Away from baseball, he enjoys golfing, fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors, especially at his family’s ranch in Montana, where he helps with cattle drives and ranch work.
