C Jake Green joins the Explorers in early August in a trade with the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League. Green is currently in his second professional season of baseball after joining the Otters out of Wayland Baptist University. The 5’11 catcher played five seasons for the Wayland Baptist Pioneers after attending Sachse High School in Texas.
Prior to his trade to the Explorers, Green played in 31 games for the otters, picking up seven RBI and three XBH in 115 plate appearances. That came off the heels of a successful rookie year where he batted .258 with a .706 OPS in 41 games for the Otters. Through that season, he also collected eight XBH with 10 RBI while scoring eight times.
He joined the Otters after finishing his senior season with Wayland Baptist where he was named the Wayland Baptist Defensive Player of the Year. He played 50 games for the Pioneers that season, finishing the year with a career-high 11 home runs to pair with a 1.079 OPS and .351 AVG with 44 RBI.
2022 was Green’s second season as a full-time starting catcher for Wayland Baptist, finishing his season with a career-high 1.110 OPS and .402 AVG across 52 games. That was good enough to notch him All-SAC Second Team honors and he showcased his power with nine big flies. He played his first full season behind the plate with the Pioneers in 2021, breaking out with a .331 AVG and 1.006 OPS across 42 games while collecting 18 XBH.
Green also played 18 during the COVID-shortened season in 2020, hitting the ball well with a .391 average across the year. In his limited time, he also managed to launch five home runs while totaling 28 RBI.
In the summer of 2019, the right-handed hitter played 50 games for the Melville Millionaires in the Western Canadian League, notching a .282 average along with a .778 OPS. Green’s first season of action for the Pioneers came prior in the spring of ’19 where he played in 17 games, recording a .302 AVG with two home runs.
