REDHAWKS’ BIG THIRD INNING DROPS EXPLORERS 9–1

DAVIS SETS CLUB STOLEN BASE MARK IN THE LOSS

By: Andrew Della Piana

FARGO, ND – Sioux City (35–41) couldn’t replicate Tuesday’s magic, falling 9–1 to Fargo‑Moorhead (40–35) on Wednesday as the RedHawks used a five‑run third and a dominant start from Matt Walker to even the series.

The X’s did strike first.

In the third, Austin Davis stole second to set a new single‑season Sioux City stolen‑base record with 61, breaking his own mark from last year. He then swiped third, and Zac Vooletich brought him home with an RBI groundout to make it 1–0.

Fargo‑Moorhead immediately flipped the game.

Six straight RedHawks reached in the bottom half, starting with Jesus Lujano’s RBI single to tie it 1–1. José Sermo blooped a single to left to score Lujano, Jarod Wright walked in a run, and Matt Kroon added a sacrifice fly. In total, the RedHawks plated five runs on five hits to surge ahead 5–1.

They added on in the fifth when Eric Filia grounded out to bring home another run, stretching the lead to 6–1.

Walker handled the rest.

The Fargo‑Moorhead starter was outstanding, tossing six innings of one‑run ball, allowing just three hits and striking out five. He induced double plays in both the fourth and fifth to keep Sioux City quiet.

The RedHawks delivered the knockout punch in the seventh. Sermo launched a three‑run homer just inside the right‑field pole for his league-leading 27th of the season, extending the lead to 9–1.
