REDHAWKS NINE RUN INNING CRUSHES X’S

Sioux City Now Game and a Half Back of Saltdogs

Fargo, ND (September 1, 2021) – A nine run sixth inning catapulted the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks past the Sioux City Explorers in a 10-5 loss for the X’s.

Tied at one in the sixth, the first three men reached for Fargo to load the bases with no one out. Dylan Kelly then struck out which compounded into a wild pitch that allowed the go ahead run to score. After an intentional walk, it was a free pass to Leo Pina that pushed the Fargo advantage to 3-1. Nick Novak added a two run single and Sam Dexter followed with an RBI double making it 6-1.

After a strikeout to put two outs on the board, Manuel Boscan was hit by a pitch to once again load the bases. And Jordan George was able to just keep a towering fly ball down the right field line fair for a grand slam and to blow the game open at 10-1.

The nine run inning was the most runs allowed in an inning by the X’s this season.

Taking the loss for the Explorers in relief was Jose Velez (2-2) as he gave up two runs on a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.

Matt Tomshaw (4-0) picked up the victory and quality start for the RedHawks as he surrendered three runs in six and two-thirds innings while walking two and striking out a season high ten.

An Errol Robinson two out two run single in the seventh, and a Sebastian Zawada two run home run in the seventh gave the game it’s final tally of 10-5.

With the loss and the Lincoln Saltdogs win over Milwaukee, Sioux City now falls a game and a half behind the Saltdogs for the second wild card in the South Division.

The X’s and RedHawks meet up for the rubber game on Thursday night at 7:02 pm with Ryan Flores (9-2, 3.33) getting the ball for Fargo, the Explorers have yet to name a starter for the contest.
