SIOUX CITY REBOUNDS FROM NINTH‑INNING GUT PUNCH, WINS IN EXTRAS
OSUNA AND DAVIS PROVIDE SPARK FOR THE X’S
By: Andrew Della Piana
SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Sioux City (32–38) pulled out a gritty 7–6 win in 10 innings over Lake Country (39–30) on Wednesday night after overcoming a ninth‑inning collapse before walking it off an inning later.
Manager Steve Montgomery was happy about the resilience, “…real gritty game. Last night, Ryan Beaird saved the bullpen for tonight and paved the way for us to win tonight.”

The DockHounds struck early. Joshua Mears crushed his league-leading 25th of the season with a two‑run shot over the 330 marker in left to make it 2–0 in the first.
Three straight two‑out singles in the second, capped by Dom Johnson’s RBI knock, extended the lead to 3–0.
Sioux City answered in the bottom half when Alberto Osuna launched his team‑leading 12th homer, trimming the deficit to 3–1. Lake Country added a run in the fifth on an Anthony Garcia sacrifice fly to make it 4–1.

Then came Sioux City’s massive response, all with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
Braulio Vásquez started the surge with a solo homer to left, tying Osuna for the team lead. Osuna followed with a two‑run single to tie the game 4–4. Dillon Tatum then punched an RBI single to give Sioux City its first lead, and Austin Davis added another run with a single to right, completing a five‑run inning and putting the Explorers ahead 6–4.

Lake Country stormed back in the ninth. Trey Morrill walked four batters, two of whom scored on a two‑run double from Johnson, tying the game 6–6 and handing Morrill his first blown save of the season.
Sioux City nearly won it in the bottom of the ninth when Zac Vooletich tripled with one out, but a fielder’s choice and a deep flyout stranded him at third.

In the tenth, Tahnaj Thomas delivered a dominant inning, retiring the side in order and touching 99 mph on his final pitch to keep the ghost runner at second.
The Explorers finished the job moments later. Austin Davis lined a walk‑off single to score Yorman Rodriguez, sealing a 7–6 victory and completing a comeback they nearly lost an inning earlier.

Sioux City wraps up the four‑game series against Lake Country on Thursday at 6:35 p.m., with pregame coverage starting at 6:05 p.m. on KSCJ 94.9 FM and 1360 AM.
