X’S DROP SERIES OPENER TO RAILROADERS

Windle Dazzles But Explorers Offense Punchless

 

Sioux City, Iowa (June 17th, 2022) – The Sioux City Explorers fell to the Cleburne Railroaders in the first game of the series by a score of 3-1.

Sioux City’s offense was off to a quick start, getting on the board in the first inning. Chase Harris led off with a double and scored on Ademar Rifaela’s sacrifice fly making it 1-0.

The score remained that way until the sixth. Despite not recording a hit, the Railroaders’ offense was able to strike in the sixth. Eddie Hernandez doubled off the left field wall and was immediately Brough home on Jacob Bockelie’s two-run home run to make it 2-1. Cleburne added another run in the eighth inning to bring us to a the final score of 3-1 on a Chuck Taylor two out RBI single.

Tom Windle (0-1) took the tough luck loss. He tossed seven innings, collected four strikeouts, while allowing only two hits, two runs, and two walks.

Trevor Simms (1-4) walked away with the win. He struck out six while scattering four hits, one run and three walks.

Michael Krauza followed Simms effort with a perfect two and a third innings of relief. Nick Gardewine picked up his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Game two of the series will take place Saturday at 6:05. Starting on the bump for the X’s is Zach Hedges (0-2, 4.39). He will be opposed by right hander Garrett Alexander (0-5, 7-94).
