X’s Cruise on Fourth of July

Sioux City, Iowa (July 4th, 2022) — The Sioux City Explorers won the final game of the four-game series against the Winnipeg Goldeyes 7-2.

Sioux City jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Danry Vasquez’s double to right field, which brought home Danny Amaral who reached on a bunt single.

The X’s added a pair of runs in the second with Shane Podsednik’s first professional career home run.

In the third Sioux City added another two runs. Danny Amaral, who scored on a sacrifice fly plated the first run. Trey Martin then scored on Sebastian Zawada’s double to left field to give Sioux City a 5-0 lead.

The Explorers collected two more runs in the fourth on Danry Vasquez’s single to right. The base hit scored both Danny Amaral and Zack Kone toggle Sioux City a commanding 7-0 lead.

Tom Windle (2-2) started on the bump for the X’s and walked away with the win. He threw six innings, collecting three strikeouts, and allowing two hits, two walks, and zero runs.

R.J. Martinez (4-3) took the loss. He threw five innings and had five strikeouts while giving up ten hits, seven runs, and two walks.

The Explorers pitching staff did not allow any runs until the ninth. The Goldeyes put up two runs on a Justin Thompson single to score both Logan Hill and Deon Stafford Jr.

The X’s will be traveling to Sioux Falls, SD tomorrow to take on the Canaries in a three game series. The game on Tuesday will begin at 7:05 PM. The next Explorers home game will be on July 14th against the Canaries.
