Kone’s Three-Run Homer Provides Early Fireworks

 

Sioux City, Iowa (July 3rd, 2022) — Zack Kone provided some early fireworks for the largest crowd of the season as Sioux City walked it off in the ninth against the Goldeyes for the second time this series, 10-7-

Winnipeg put runs on the board in the first on Max Murphy’s two-run home run. To take. 2-0 lead.

However, Sioux City quickly tied it up in the bottom of the first to make it a 2-2 game. Danny Amaral who reached on a walk and advanced to third on a two base error and was the first run for the X’s, scoring on a Trey Martin double. Martin was able to advance on an error and then score on a ground out to tie the game at two.

Sioux City took the lead in the next inning on a Blake Tiberi solo home run. Winnipeg tied the game up in the fourth with David Washington’s single, which scored Ian Sagdal. and the Goldeyes took back the lead the following inning on Hidekel Gonzalez’s solo shot to make it a 5-4 game.

The score remained 5-4 until the seventh inning, when Sioux City took back the lead with three runs. The first run came from a sacrifice fly from Danry Vasquez which tied the game 4-4. A two out single from Sebastian Zawada gave the X’s the lead and a Blake Tiberi RBI single padded it, 6-4.

Sioux City starter Patrick Ledet took the no decision. He threw seven innings, collected six strikeouts, and allowed seven hits, four runs, and three walks. Kevin Lenik (1-0) came into the ninth inning and took the win tonight, collecting one strikeout.

Goldeyes starter Freisis Adames and also took the no decision tonight. He pitched five innings, had two strikeouts, and gave up four hits, two earned runs, and four walks.

The Goldeyes pulled to within a run in the eighth on David Washington’s solo home run.

For a second consecutive night Winnipeg came back in the ninth. A lead off walk was followed by a one out single and stolen base to put runners at second and third. A two run single by Eric Rivera gave the Goldeyes a 7-6 lead. Kevin Lenik (1-0) picked up the final two outs of the inning earning the win in relief.

In the bottom of the ninth Sioux City gained a lead off walk from Martin. After two quick outs followed, Tiberi was hit by a pitch to put two aboard. Nate Samson singled to left to tie the game. Zack Kone then followed with a three-run blast to win the game for the X’s 10-7-

The final game of the series takes place on Monday night July 4th, at 7:05 with another firework show to take place after the conclusion of the game. Tom Windle (1-2, 4.12) is the starter for the X’s and will be opposed by RJ Martinez (4-2, 4.10) for Winnipeg.
