EXPLORERS BEGIN TO BUILD ROSTER FOR 2018

SIOUX CITY, IA – The Sioux City Explorers announced today that the club has signed RHP Brian Ernst to a 2018 American Association contract. The upcoming season will be Ernst’s 5th season in professional baseball, all at the independent level.

SIOUX CITY, IA – The Sioux City Explorers announced today that their schedule for the 2018 season has been finalized and will feature all 11 league opponents coming to Mercy Field at Lewis & Clark Park, which will mark the teams 26th season in Siouxland. The Explorers will open the 2018 season on the road for their first 7 games beginning with a 4 game set versus the Lincoln Saltdogs starting on Thursday, May 17th, 2018. The X’s will have an off day on the 21st before traveling to Sioux Falls for a 3 game series against the Canaries. The X’s 2018 home opener will be on Friday, May 25th against the Cleburne Railroaders.

This will be the thirteenth year for the Siouxland Sleep-Out at Lewis and Clark Park, home of the Explorers. AMERICAN ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO DIVISION FORMAT

SIOUX CITY, IA – The American Association announced that the league will move to a two-division format for the 2018 season from its previous three-division setup. The new division format will split the 12 team league into the North Division and the South Division. The Sioux City Explorers will play in the league’s South Division, along with the Lincoln Saltdogs (NE), Kansas City T-Bones (MO), Wichita Wingnuts (KS), Texas AirHogs TX), and the Cleburne Railroaders (TX). The North Division features the Sioux Falls Canaries (SD), St. Paul Saints (MN), Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (ND), Gary SouthShore Railcats (IN), Winnipeg Goldeyes (MB), and the leagues newest member, the Chicago Dogs (IL).

SIOUX CITY – Just seven nights before this, the Lincoln Saltdogs dropped their fifth game in as many meetings this season with the Sioux City Explorers.

Not only that, but those five defeats in as many tries sent the Saltdogs’ record against Sioux City to a remarkable 2-24 since the start of the 2015 campaign.
