Bio

Angel Macuare joins the Sioux City Explorers for the remainder of the 2025 season, bringing with him a diverse and well-traveled professional baseball background that spans affiliated ball, winter leagues, and international development circuits. The 25-year-old right-hander most recently pitched for the Wichita Wind Surge, the Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, before being released in June 2025.

A native of Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela, Macuare began his professional career in 2017 after signing with the Houston Astros as an international free agent. He quickly established himself as a promising young arm in the Astros’ system, progressing through the ranks with stops at the DSL Astros, GCL Astros, Tri-City ValleyCats, Fayetteville Woodpeckers, Asheville Tourists, and Corpus Christi Hooks. His steady development and ability to adapt to increasingly competitive levels of play earned him a spot in the prestigious Arizona Fall League in 2021, where he pitched for the Glendale Desert Dogs alongside some of the top prospects in baseball.

Macuare’s time in affiliated ball showcased his versatility as both a starter and reliever. Known for his live fastball and ability to generate swings and misses, he consistently demonstrated poise on the mound and a willingness to take on any role asked of him. In 2023, he reached Triple-A with the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, further solidifying his status as a reliable depth arm within the Astros organization.

Following his tenure with Houston, Macuare signed with the Miami Marlins in 2024, where he split time between the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos and Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. Across eight seasons in affiliated baseball, he compiled over 360 innings pitched, racking up 372 strikeouts and 17 wins while maintaining a reputation as a dependable and coachable pitcher.

In early 2025, Macuare joined the Minnesota Twins organization and was assigned to Wichita, where he posted a 3.38 ERA over 12 appearances before his release. His professional journey has taken him through nearly every level of the minor leagues, and he now brings that wealth of experience to the independent ranks.

Macuare adds depth, experience, and upside to the Sioux City Explorers’ pitching staff. With his international pedigree, high-level experience, and ability to pitch in multiple roles, he’s expected to be a key contributor as Sioux City pushes through the second half of the season. For Macuare, the opportunity in Sioux City represents a fresh chapter and a chance to continue proving himself on the mound.
