Bio

Carlos Castro joins the Sioux City Explorers during his 14th professional season, bringing with him a wealth of experience from both affiliated and independent baseball. The 31-year-old catcher and first baseman most recently played with Bravos de León in the Mexican League before being released in June 2025. Castro appeared in over 300 games across several seasons in Mexico, also suiting up for Tigres de Quintana Roo, Piratas de Campeche, and Diablos Rojos del México.

The Dominican Republic native began his professional career in 2011 after signing with the Atlanta Braves as an international free agent. He spent eight years in the Braves organization, reaching High-A with the Florida Fire Frogs. In 2016, he was named an MiLB.com Organization All-Star, and in 2017, he earned a Florida State League All-Star nod while slugging 17 home runs for the Fire Frogs. During his time in affiliated ball, Castro slashed .278/.313/.428 over 1,279 career at-bats with 33 home runs and 213 RBI.

After leaving the Braves system, Castro transitioned to the independent ranks. He joined the York Revolution of the Atlantic League in 2020 and later suited up for the Long Island Ducks and Kentucky Wild Health Genomes. Castro also competed in winter leagues across Latin America, including the Dominican Winter League and Venezuelan Winter League, with clubs such as Toros del Este, Leones del Escogido, and Tiburones de La Guaira.

In addition to his work behind the plate, Castro has also logged significant time at first base and as a designated hitter. Known for his powerful right-handed bat and veteran presence, he’s a proven run producer who consistently makes hard contact. One of the highlights of his career came in May 2017, when he launched three home runs in a single game while playing in High-A.

Castro brings a well-rounded resume to the Sioux City Explorers. His versatility, pop at the plate, and experience in high-level environments across the Americas make him a valuable addition to the club’s 2025 roster. As Sioux City looks to stay competitive in the second half of the season, Castro provides both leadership and depth for the stretch run.

Originally from La Romana, Dominican Republic, Castro has shown resilience throughout a career that has spanned multiple countries and leagues. With the Explorers, he aims to add another successful chapter to his professional journey.
